so i heard that guppies can be converted to saltwater fish and my roommate happens to have too many guppies (as they breed up a storm), so im working on converting some by slowly raising their tank's salinity over the next week...
these brave guppies will be harshly tested, but those that survive the conversion will live freely in my saltwater tanks...

dude i have seen this work in lower salinities for some time.and if things work out in higher reef salinity wich i hope it does i will be keeping alot of guppies.when i feed some off to my carpet anemones and the reef lobster they swim around for some time before being caught and i have on several occasions have had them live a day or two in the salt water and there deaths have been at the hands of another creature that had come out to eat at night.maybe the salt but i have no proof.good luck with the experiment and dont go too fast as i believe patience will pay in this one.i will contact you if i have some culls to spare..that is if you need em.

cool-cool, i read it takes a week to do this, but im gonna just be adding small amounts of slat water or sprinkles of reef salt into the bowl, im sure it will work for a few of them, i think i have more than enough subjects to allow them to complete their mission...

got a nano sponge filter from badxgillen to help keep the tiny jar clean, i keep adding small scoops of salt to their system but it has yet to register on my hydrometer, but i would prefer to go slowly on it (2 weeks now), after all i have no losses yet...

well i finally used a different hydrometer to check the tank salinity and it was at the top end, so i decided to get them in the tank now, i put them in a baggy and acclimated them, they are now overwhelmed in the new tank, they just kind of dont know what to do, but they are sticking together...

just three so far, it was my first attempt at it, im much more confident in doing it again... how vulnerable do you think they are to being stung or killed in there?

i agree, but they have only gotten brighter in the tank (i honestly think its more than the lighting) and even seem far more active, they even stick by each other, but we will see...

they continue to do very well in the tank, but they need something else in there with em besides the watchmen goby, as he is always lurking in the shadows, but not seen...

i would be willing to try that, hmmm... interesting.

the guppies that did survive are doing great if anything they seem healthier as they arent crowded at all...

the clown loach thing sounds interesting as if i recall they do live in the borneo samatra area.and i suppose if they got of the island via river to ocean and adjusted to the salinity it would work. i have seen some pretty large clown loaches in african tanks buffered with a rather high PH so it really seems possible but still odd.after the mollies shoot for the loach and if all works out you can add some scats and monos and have a reef with some nice brackish fish.there are some other fishes as well but this is way of subject.sorry just thinking.

interesting, i may have a new chapter in this project.

when i did the guppies i took my time adding salt over the course of like 2-3 weeks, while it took longer i seemed to get better results.

update: one has gone AWOL as soon as the new clown fish was added, i doubt he was eaten by the clown, but the other guppy just wont leave the clown alone now, best friends by default i guess...
