Hey all,
I've got a yellow striped maroon clown that is giving me problems. it's trying to host in the ricordia and xenia (no neme for it) which is pissing off the corals. He also is a bully to the percula and my new six-line wrasse (THANKS Garret!). I'm hoping for an engineer goby (juvenile) and either a couple decorative fish (thinking blue green chomis or something). I'm also thinking about a phosphate reactor and/or other things for my soon-to-be-sump. (THANKS Serge!!!). willing to take offers.

Live Aquaria lists a 2-3" as $40, I'm pretty sure mine's more like 4, maybe 4.5" so I think there's some value in it.

Hmm...didn't know they're so community oriented, known people with one...would two be OK or should I get a smaller goby?

your call they do get big.my neighbor has on in his 55 and it is alone and well but they certainly are a communal fish.the more the merrier.there are alot of gobies out there. engineers just have there own charms.

i would not get a single engineering gobby, they really seem to explode with character when they are in a group, kinda like bar gobies, i got three of them and i only want more of them, i have seen those solitary and they get bigger it seems, but they dont have the same spark in them it seems...

ok...I want my sand as stirred as possible (rocks were put in before sand so I'm not worried about re-scaping). I have a watchmen/pistol but they only touch the sand in the one spot. what can I get that will be as sand-active as possible without killing my CUC (hermits, emerald, snails, urchin, shrimp, etc.)

should I just go with a pair of engineers?

maybe do conchs instead? I've got some tiny nass snails and a chesnut snail. I think my shortspined urchin burrows too... but I see some red cyano on the glass in the sand bed so I know it could use more...

conchs are real coool but i have never had long term succes with them.some get pretty good sized compared to there enclosure when you think about the actual floor space there is available for travel after rockwork and such.

I can't seem to find consistent info about husbandry. some people say they put them in and forget about them, others say they starve after a year or two...I'm nervous to get something that's so vague...

really, i have not heard of problems with sand sifting stars, mine sit in my sand, only getting spotted when it has to go over a rock. but i guess i really dont know much about the little guys...

what about theose fish i see that take mouthfuls of sand and spit it out their gills, cannot recall their name but ive seen em at the animal house in town.

just thinking out loud...

the diamond goby is a good sand sifter and is the one i believe you were mentioning skull.there are a number of others that are pretty cool as well.i have also had good experience with sand sifting stars.they do clean house as fara s a sand bed goes and can go hungry if there is insuficient food items but i try to feed my sand bed slightly once a week as i have a number of nasarius ,bumble bee snails ,and other inverts that benifit from the extra foods.i keep all of the above minus the dimond goby in the same tank and have no problems as of yet.and i think i could trade you the engineers if you want.it would have to be laterr in the week like friday maybe as i have a busy schedule this week.or you can let some inverts do the trick.

k...I'll try to pull her either tonight or tomorrow night and I can put her in my not-yet-setup sump with a rock or two for filtration until wednesday evening.

I'll drain some water into the sump, put some of the rock in it (also get it out of my way) and go at it with a couple nets.

i'll let you know how it goes.

on another note...does redskull want to trade a frag or two? I've got two cabbage corals that have stuck down to a couple pieces of rubble
