PostSubject: DIY Fragging Sarcophyton   DIY Fragging Sarcophyton EmptyWed Nov 02, 2011 11:47 pm

so i wish i could have taken a pick of it right before this fragging as it had touched the 55 gallon aquarium front to back.as i was admiring it i noticed it was trying to attach to a rather large rock on my system and without though i went in and tried to move him.being a little to forcefull i ripped a small piece of the stalk and at that point decided screw it its already hurt lets cut it up. its called FRAG FEVER. Twisted Evil
any how here is a pick a little prior to me cutting it.

i used a brand new razor blade and cut in from the out side and then cut along the outer rim of the cap.slow and steady.

it will start to ooze so above a bucket of the tank water.some my friend uses an air stone in the bucket to help with the slough off of the slime but i am going to do water changes to the bucket from my main tank periodicaly.

yeah it was crazy..you have no idea how much slime came of.like cups of it literaly.i had to change the bucket out 6 times before it wasnt gunking itself up and i felt remotely safe putting it back into my tank.long ago mike at MVP told me to just cut it in half to frag it.i took him the wrong way and cut it right through the center down the stem too.needless to say that is not the right way but it bounced back.since then i am confident that this coral could make it and be a good practive for when i do the turbinaria coral.

i have your blues in my 46... but i am not averse to more for other tanks Smile not at aaaall... I have more zoas for you too. That sarco (that this thread was all about) would be cool to add to this tank.

The ones in the middle are those blueish greenish cool zoas i gave you recently. They really like a LOT of light apparently because they are up near the top and stretched out. I should try them in my 46 with the dual 250's... they might rock in there (like the blues- they love that light). I've got more of that purple cactus on the bottom there (up for trade anyone Smile I have LOTS of purple pavona) and the fast growing green hydnophora in the top middle.

did you see that cool coral banded shrimp in that cave? He picked that spot out first thing and has remained- i love it.

Great pics! Are you using a point and shoot camera or do you have a SLR with a macro lens? I'm wondering if using a camera with a manual focus lens is the key to getting great pics like those.

thanks! I have a nikon D70 which was the bomb back in the day when i got it but now you can get one used for nothing comparatively. It is a nice DSLR though. I dont have a macro lens- i really want one but i sold mine years ago for recording stuff (I am always switching from one hobby to another). So for this I pulled back a little and zoomed in in order to focus. A macro lens would open up an amazing world of opportunities so I hope I can figure out a way to get one.

Also, photo editing programs help SO MUCH to get the color right. With white balance on DSLRs it is so hard to get a true picture so being able to edit the saturation, tint, etc helps to get you to what it really looks like under those lights.
