PostSubject: Brooklynella Hostillis   Brooklynella Hostillis EmptyFri Nov 18, 2011 3:32 am

A terrible afliction has befallen my favorite clowns.i was able to snap some photos during the last days of his degridation in hopes to document, treat, and help prevent other peoples clowns from this NASTY.

this is a parasite in the form of a protazoan know as Brooklynella Hostilis.although this ailment can effect all fish it brings clown fish to there knees,or fins,in a short period of time.i have read some angels are similary defensless.Obviouse symptoms are rapid resperation, lying at the bottom, loss of appitite, and a thick white like slime coat combined with a muted body coloration.damaged tissue can appear as blotches or in my case the look of burns.from my reading a fresh water dip can shock the parasites off but the only sure fire way seems to be formalin or femaldahyde.only the most toxic treatments for this malody.

Can you explain what the photo shows? I see some ich-looking white spots. The fins also look transparent at the tips. ?

i have to be on my way out as of now but i will post a run down of this illness.for now as yyou can see in this pic there is a number of whitish specs or tufts next to waht appear to be burns wich is tissue wich has undergone necrosis from the invaiding parasite.

here it is not as clear but you can see the spots in addition to the other markings.this is obviously in the later stages of development and unfortunatly the only telling sighn to the naked eye is when the damage is done.

well apparantly the only reliable treatment is pretty much the worst.formaldihyde is the cure but is also the most toxic thing i can put in the tank.so a long not so funny story and i finaly get the treatment but the following morning one is already dead.i must say i am not surprised but i am still very unhappy.here he is for all to examine.my best clowns ever.ireplaceable..ITS TERRIBLE!!!

Damn man i am really sorry. I know those were your sons and had lots of extra value. How many times did i try and snag them from you!? Very nice clowns, but you are learning so its not for nothing!

thank you for the thoughts.i have moved the other clown to a quarintine so that i may administer the treatment in the form of formalin wich cannot be used with invertabrates.now a ten gallon tank with a bare bottom and some plastic plants.this will be the treatment tank.got my Hydor filter rockin and some PVC pipe for a refuge if needed.

the dosage recomended to me was fermaldahyde %37 one drop to the gallon.

i was only able to obtain formalin the derivitive at %3
i could have pruchased a stronger product at %4 but i was informed at %3 i would simply have to compensate for the ramainder with the addition of more treatment.

so at %3 i am using 12 drops to the gallon.the tank is not entirely full so i dose for 9 gallons 108 drops.
