so i have read about this but this is the first time i have seen it in one of my tanks.this euphyllia has just dropped a polyp wich i presume is another form of propagation.i love it when a coral creates its own frags.sorry about the pic as it is hard to see but you might be able to make it out if you look hard enough.

the main colony is in a position that it doesnt really have anywhere to go so that could be it but i have had several colonys that have never done this and were just as crowded.maybe its when they reach a certain mass as well?

it would make sense that some corals could have a kind of critical mass.

It is almost like quaram sensing in microbiotic colonies. I almost think its more stress related. Or just a form of propagation. Frogspawn doesnt usually have polyp bailout like other weaker corals, it just digests its neighbors lol

ha, that's cool! I am amazed how fast those things grow (when I cut them off myself). I wonder if a snail or something smushed into it and popped it off or if it really dropped it on its own- pretty cool!

thats funny as i didnt even think about the snail as i was in such suprise i just asumed that it had "ejected" but the small bump is sometimews all they need.i remeber my original was one giant colony and then one day right in front of me it fragged itself just dropping a whole piece.hmmmmmmm?

coral certainly does do that... depending on the type i guess. My pavona cactus is constantly dropping pieces off but it is a slower process- you can see the stuff sloooowly dropping off it. Maybe you have little xmas fragging elves in your tank Wink
