PostSubject: Under the cabinet Nano Bluid   Under the cabinet Nano Bluid EmptySun Jul 27, 2014 10:25 am

I started this project earlier this month.I want to create a efficient yet decorative display tank. This was located on prime countertop real estate next to the kitchen sink.Under the cabinet Nano Bluid Dscf5148" />
Special thanks to badxgillen for construction of the sand pipe:

I am using the the small Tom brand pump and light fixture that came with the gallon tank. Here's a close-up of the upper level, now with coral!

The sand pipe creates nice turbulence. The next shot is sideways,Hamstern I am looking in your direction.

I used this light fixture from a bathroom exhaust fan I found at the thrift shop.I am using a 50/50 Coralife bulb to illuminate the 5 gallon tank.

That looks pretty decent. I thought for sure the PC bulb would be brighter than the screw in PC.Maybe you should use the PAR or Lux meter to see which is brighter,or just throw in two of the same frags under the two different lights and let the coral decide.

Thanks! The bulb in the upper level is used and may not be up to par so to speak.I am planning on adding more corals soon.My parameters are looking good and the tank is looking empty.

I made a background using felt, foam and a binder. The 7 watt bulb has been attached to the cabinet with hooks as my sticky Velcro failed me.I also added some zoas and a chalice frag.

Now there are some nice name brand zoas. It will be quite a nice zoa patch here before too long, are you going to focus on softie corals?

Most likely I will end up with a nice assortment of softies. So much variety,so little space.I Would like to add some brain coral frags to the gravel bed when the water parameters stabilizes. Also plan to add a waterproof LED so that I can attempt some SPS.Ultimately I want this tank to look like a large aquarium from a distance with plenty of macro brilliance up close.

Be careful about the brains as they tend to have nasty sweepers,Maybe acans? If you do decide on a brain I have a frag I can throw your way, just let me know if you want to go that route. Oh and nice progress, slow and steady wins the race.

Thank you!I am pretty set on adding a brain in the foreground as a focal point. I can trim it up as it out grows the space. In the background I would like to add favia or favites as their tentacles are shorter.I have a acan that could use a trimming too!

More and more progress made. Chalices, brains, and zoas are all looking great.Plans for any other coral varieties or just going to add to the color spectrum of the existing coral species? I know you have to keep things form getting too chaotic especially when things start to grow out. A single head of Duncan might look interesting in there.

Actually I was thinking I should add head of Duncan. Those corals seem very  underrated especially in larger aquariums. They are well behaved and add nice movement to the water.A good finishing touch. I was hoping to include a SPS,however the lighting seems inadequate. The current group is growing steady, especially the softies.Under the cabinet Nano Bluid <a href=Under the cabinet Nano Bluid Dscf8212" />

Talk about being efficient with the use of space, and looking good doing it.

Defninately not your average pico deco kit. It has some nice fish and killer corals in a tight package.Makes me want to set one up at my work but I know that would not fly, better to keep it at home were I can control things. looking forward to an update,it is always fun seeing corals grow especially when they are small.
