Brown Spots? Empty
PostSubject: Brown Spots?   Brown Spots? EmptySat Dec 24, 2011 12:41 am

These are photos of my apistogramma cacatuoides. Today he is showing some brown spots on his face, head, and fins. The spots almost have a white center. Can anyone tell me what it is and recommend a treatment if needed?

I just checked the water 3 days ago right before a 25% water change. No ammonia or nitrites, minimal nitrates. After the water change I added a small amount of salt. Two days later the fish started showing these spots. The female cacatuoides also has some. The rainbows and corys are all fine. I was wondering if it was some type of worm or fluke due to the brown spots with white centers. Damn, I really don't want to have to nuke the tank with antibiotics.

all i can think of asides from bringing the fish in for a scraping is to preventively treat the tank with a half dose shotgun medication for protazoan parasites and continue the salt to see if it is an organism causing the problem.i dont normaly recomend this but seeing as the stores are closed for the holidays its a good bet.i normaly treat my tanks with half doses of quik cure and a little salt when i have new arivals and i have never had ill effects.hope this clears up. Very Happy

I did some melafix, pimafix, and a small additional amount of salt. He looks somewhat better today. I'll come down and buy some quik cure from you this week if they are not completely improved. Thanks!
