| check out this crazy coral.this is an interesting one here as it is an encrusting gargonian and has a rather toxic sting from what i have been informed.here it is just put in the tank.i will have to wait for it to be happy to snap a pic of its polyps exposed.the thing with the green tip i have been told is a dead mans finger wich is a type of macro. | Just in case people are interested, the gorgonian is Erythropodium caribaeorum. Not only does it have a sting, but it is immune to all other known coral stings. It can overgrow bubble coral, Euphyllias, whatever. A decent description of this guy is at http://animal-world.com/Aquarium-Coral-Reefs/Encrusting-Gorgonian but they're wrong about feeding. Erythropodium doesn't eat anything we can put in our tanks for it. It lives entirely on symbiotic zooxanth and absorbed nutrients from the water. It actually likes a little nitrate in its environment. The website is correct that this is a "bombproof" beginners coral. Hard to kill and even appropriate for a FOWL because it doesn't need intense lighting and fish will not eat it, period. The Dead Man's Finger is Neomeris sp. Its a calcareous macroalgae that's not seen very often. I think they're neat. | |

| Its not happy yet? Surprising. Don't worry, it'll get happy and look like a mass of hair waving around (after a lot of conditioner).
I noticed I mentioned this coral is good for a FOWL tank....I meant FOWLR. Not that I haven't seen some fowl or foul tanks.
