Yucky Duck...........Weed

i have been having a little bit of a lemna problem.there is duck weed in a number of my tanks and it seems to be growing faster than expected.faster than my meal worms can eat and i have yet to aquire a fish that consumes this stuff at a fast enough rate.not even sure wich way to go as far as a fish.somthing like a silver dollar or tin foil they tear plants up but they are so undesirable in my book.look at this crap....[img][/img]its terrible.....one week here.

i think it looks pretty, but yeah i have seen that crap take away light like none other. i could use some actually...

so i was over at charios the other day and noticed he had a coup[le tanks looking much like this one.i said man you got the same problem i have with your duck weed.he replied that those are his harvest tanks for the others.i noticed that all the other tnaks were free of the weed.he then told me that a simple gold fish will rid the whole tank of the menace.how simple i now need to grab a couple goldfishes and quarantine them so that i may utilize there abilities.then off to the pond when its all done.

I bet my bocourti cichlids would love that dtuff

I actually find Duck weed and various other plants and animals that would normally be called pests interesting. I especially like Azola, how each one has tons of miniature leaves and repels water. Duck Weed I find just as interesting, I try to collect different types. I generally place them in my 10gal African dwarf frog tank. They have been disappearing though....I take some of that off your hands...
However they can be disastrous where you don't want them. Here is some pics I took of an Azola infested pond....

YES that is a pond lily being covered by CLIMBING Azola! I have even see Azola rooted into the nearby mud!

i ae that azola is intersting as a plant it is uninteresting to me as an aquarium specimen.you should check out some of the more indepth reads about the various types of azola and there abilities to reproduce through multiple means as well as there unique design structure some containing simbiotic relations.

well i finaly got myself a gold fish and now my problems are disapearing as far as the duck weed but he is growing fast and making a mess.hes kinda growing on me so he may just end up in the pond next summer.
