PostSubject: RTN Rapid Tissue Necrosis   RTN Rapid Tissue Necrosis EmptySat Aug 06, 2011 1:30 am

a terrible ailment that can cause tremendous damage in a short amount of time.usualy tageting SPS corals but can effect others.it can be brought on by a number of factors but once started is hard if not imposible to reverse.most often fragging the dying coral is the best option.in this case as it is a frag it wasnt doable.i have had this happen a few times before but never have taken pics.i hope to capture this and future incedents on camera and see if i we can pinpoint some of the associated problems.

notice the above pic of the monti cap is worse as it was taken later in the day after i had gotten off work to address the problem.in most instances you want to dip but in this case this guy is just going to get fragged so that i can just remove the infected tissue and hopefully nip this in the bud.

and here you can see the damage done to this peice of cap.this was in just a 8-9 hour work day and it ate up months of growth.

well it usualy just looks like the coral starts to slough off a slime material but underneath is skeletal tissue as the slime is the infected necrotic tissue.thats why in these cases it is best to remove the whole area in question if possible.it usualy starts from an area that is open to infection as in after having some skeletal damage, torn flesh, or burns from coral aggresion and salt.

boy was it.and here i have my best acan i have ever owned.it has been stung by a nieghboring acan and for some reason has comepletly destroyed the entire colony.yhis is all in one work shift as far as the spread goes.the entire thing is going down Sad
i am dipping this guy but i have little hope.it took me so much to get this frag as its an aussie acan or at least it was.i am so sad and angry but there is no one to blame...aside from the blue damsel that i know moved the corals in the first place. Evil or Very Mad

Remember don't toss the frag Neutral After a little time maybe the acan will have a head that bounces back.If there is even one head left it may just grow back over its old skeleton and be right as rain. I have seen stranger things happen in my tank. Smile

Another one suffering the simptoms of RTN,this time around its an acropora. Its been dipped but that only seemed to slow it down.the original culprit was a lobo that this top heavy frag fell into and now I am only left with tiny shards of a coral.

Its time to operate.

Here we go again.I just recieved this froma forum member but I think it was stressed from trasport and fragging. This time it was a frag that had already exhibited a little white spot that I decided to let heal on its own but apparently its not going to.Too bad really...

it was a nice tri color acropora.

here its more apparant with the flash
