PostSubject: Looking for some beginner corals...   Thu Sep 26, 2013 11:46 am

Hey guys...keeping my eye out for some new coral. My tanks been going for about 2 months. 60 gallon with plenty of space. Have a Green Zoa now but really want to get my coral life going. Anybody out there have some good starters (or even suggestions?)? I thought some colorful polyps would be awesome!

Sorry don't have much to trade but open for ideas.

Thanks Bertshouse

I will throw you a starter coral or two, what are you aiming for in the end? I have some green stars and a couple leathers I might be able to frag. I also have many zoas so if you have a type I may not have we can see about a small trade in the future. I will see about some photos later I am on a lunch break so not much time now.

Starter Corals? Hmm....well I would definitely suggest softies. As Badxgillen is offering leather corals are quite resilient and from my experience can tolerate lower light and more fluctuations in parameters. Speaking of lighting what kind of light do have running over your 60gal? lighting can play a big role in the corals you can keep. But generally speaking you an move coral higher or lower to increase/decrease the light it receives. Anyways mushrooms corals are very strong and if they do not like where they are can can move to different rocks without assistance. Of course they are also very inexpensive and make a nice a addition to tanks. but if mushrooms are not what you like then perhaps well...Zoas! I have seen many great deals on Zoas at the Premium Aquarium and Reefs2go. But I know Badxgillen has seemingly never ending types of Zoas so if it's starter coral you want I would definitely recommend talking to him.

Well thanks for the good words man. But Hamstern has a few corals himself that are pretty easy going. He is a mushroom maniac.

Anything green sounds awesome(fav color)... it would look good under my leds too. Is the leather mushroom your icon pic? Any mushrooms or colorful zoas would look great. Any photos you have would be nice to look at... I saw some cool pics in the coral section. Really just looking for some colors that would pop, ya know.

Thanks badxgillen

Thanks for the post. I'm running two 120W Ocean Revive LEDs. They get pretty bright so I'm only rocking them halfway. I'd like to see how some corals would react. I already have a few zoas that are eating up the daylight. Mushrooms look really good too, just haven't had a chance to try any yet. I'm really into those colors that stand out, my lights would really brighten it up.

The tear drop looks soo sick... love the colors and from what I've read clams aren't too difficult to keep. The radio active dragon eyes are new to me, I'd love to get my hands on some...the greens just pop out. awesome.
