V is for Vodka.

After regular dosing vodka for less than a week my nitrates disappeared in my 60 gallon mixed reef.In a effort to bring my nitrates back up I reduced vodka dosing to 1 drop per day.Is this tiny amount capable of making a notable difference? My main reason for dosing is to control nuisance algae.

I am sure that it is making an effect, the carbon dosing goes a long way in a reef tank, seeing as some people use about .2 ml in their system it would not be far fetched to see some results from a small bacterial colony taking a little chunk out of your nitrates\phosphates via 1-2 drops a day.

I was just told today that by using RO water in your NOPOX or Vodka can dilute it so that you can get a much more accurate dosage or allow you to use a dosing pump that does not have as minute of milliliter metering.

I am going to try just that, diluted vodka for more leway during carbon dosing.

Also in response to the original posts, I am only dosing about.08 milliliters in a 210 gallon salt tank that I take care of and I only dose once a week. I am sure that it is having a very positive effect as the nitrates have been very stable even without water changes or medias.

I am sure that even just the drop you are adding would be of benefit.
