Picture of the Month

seeing as how it will be inevitable to have one here i thought i would start an idea rolling for picture of the month.it would be the picture on the home page for some time and aside from bragging rights there could be some other incentives.i am down to throw down some frags,frozen foods,maybe something else at some point.i would love to use some nice pics for a profile bank.

im assuming they must be pics we have taken ourselves?

yeah you have to take em yourself..no stealing other peoples work.and yet to decide on a prize.leaning twards frozen food.we will see

oh yeah that too.so if i were you skull grab a camera and take a pic of your bicolor blennyand a few others just for good mesure.i suppose you will have to state that the pic was entered in the picture of the month or P.O.T.M .and i will have to look into a voting method.remember this is just an idea that i think could go well.input like the forementioned is apreciated.

oh and i wouldnt mind a list of lighting and or if a flash was used. just for inquiring minds.sometimes those zoas throw me off when they are under other lights.

I like the idea, frozen food or a frag or two would be cool prizes.

Perhaps everyone who submits has to also submit a pic of the frag they are offering. then the person who wins gets their pick of the frags offered?

nice i like the idea of a prize pool.perhaps a good way to diversify.but for a first run on the POTM i am leaning twards a giveaway.

the frag contest pool thing seems cool and all, but then the pics would be of the frags no? that just would seem to be geared towards the same guy with the best frags, kind of intimidating for those of us without a lot of frags...

I funk there would be a second pic of drag. First pick would be the 'entry', second pickof what you're offering

well as far as this month there will just be entrees of pics wich will then be voted on.i think that should be simple enough for now.the frag swap sounds sweet too.

Pitching in my 2 cents... you could always make the photo competition have a different topic each month. One month, best invert photo. The next month, best fish photo. Best plant photo, best aquascape photo, best feeding frenzy photo, etc... Kind of varying it up would give everyone a shot. What would be really badass is if Dale would sponsor it. Maybe he could throw in a $5 or $10 gift certificate each month or something. If he posted the competition at his store it would definitely get more people on the forum.

i know that would be killer if he would be up for that.i am not too sure how i will aproach that.hmmmmmm.as far as the topic picture i am down to try that out at some point in the future.nice input.

yeah, im not sure dale would be game to sponsor (no offense to the guy), he is usually pretty busy with just the store.

AH would be a neat idea...maybe to start, he'd be willing just to post the pic? it'd offer us some bragging rights and may increase interest in the hobby which would benefit him (purchases). it wouldn't cost him anything except 8"x10" of wallspace.

so for this month, just one picture to submit of *anything* reef tank oriented? Like my jawfish and the dottyback or a tank shot?

yeah one pic and it can be any pet related shot thats apropriate.then it will be up to the votes that are made.unless there are objections.

i would prefer this remain separate from what is the AH.
just as im sure its not okay to offer to give someone a frag rather than them buying one for 29.99p/polyp at the AH, it isnt okay for the AH to use this to a business forum, not a hobbyist forum for locals with similar interests, i for one want this to remain a separate entity from the AH.

Agreed. I have really tried to keep my business side out of it, except the advice part haha. It becomes competitive and feelings get hurt. Keep the playing field level on a hobbiest level.

@theresskull: good point...you thought of the other perspective and I think you're right.

one day there may be sponsers but for now things should be as simple as possible.and i see that as a complication.i do apreciate the input. for the first few rounds of POTM there have already been some contibutions from local hobbyists so...so far so good.i would like to increase members at some point but a steady stream of good people is fine for now.

i like cats, got one of my own, he's a little fatter...

i would like to apologize if i came off wrong, but i think we all understand what i was getting at, cause after all we all love the AH and would be lost without that nexus of the local pet hobby/trade (i know i would be)...

i like the cat pic as he lounges next to the guitar.not relevant to the cat but i remeber when i had my nudibranchs. they were very picture friendly.i only wish at that time i had a camera.this pic was taken with a nintedo DS i believe if i had a real camera i might enter one of these pics in the POTM
