Favia with some tissue degredation

so i have a friend who has a nice sized piece of favia that has some problems with some of the tissue around the eyes.he gave it to me to see what i can do.i have dipped it then mela fixed it prior to acclimating it to my tank.,i have given it several days to allow it to acclimate and to see if the damage will reverse and unfotunatly it seems that it would take some time to see any positive change. it may be best to remove the affected tissue.

I think you need to frag out the healthy parts. You can still try to save the affected regions after fragging.

I always have a hard time cutting/slicing/breaking my corals. They have names and I just can't bear the insult. Luckily, there are people who aren't afraid to do the right thing and do what needs to be done.

In this case, it's like an arm with gangrene...you have to chop it off to save the rest of the body.

that is exactly on my agenda.i just have to get the go ahead from the owner.i have no problem cutting things to pieces.even when they do have names.i believe that is why it has wound up in my hands.

so i was informed that i can proceed with the cuts to try and salvage this coral.time for me to get the iodine and the frag kit out.....

so it seems that i might have to take this to a friend and have his band saw do the trick as i am not sure that the dremel wheels will go all the way through.fortunatly it seems that its tissues have not gotten any noticabley worse so it should be fine until my day off to get some nice cuts.

finaly got it all chopped up on my day off and it took it rather well.lotsa iodine and the coral band saw helped.i will post pics soon.

Wow, that looks great. Let's hope all those frags get happy and grow. But if only the healthy chunks make it, that would be great too. That was a rather fast-growing Favia when it was in its happy place -- and colorful too. The green was a bit neon. It will probably reward you for saving its life.

BTW, that Inland band saw looks interesting. It appears to be made of plastic (plastic-like) material. No? Also, what was that wire or tube running to the blade guide? Is that wiring for a small light? I only have woodworking bandsaws (yes 2 of them) and I would never place anything dripping with saltwater near them.

The saws are nice. I have used them a few times They are made from plastic and stainless steel. They are very quiet and cool running. They are very nice for maneuvering. Built for corals! Not sure about any light. None of the ones i used did.

you might be talking about the coolant tube.it just drips from a resivour to the blade.and it is made from as much plastic as possible to prevent salt damage i presume.its all in all pretty light as well like 13-16 lbs.
