| This is a filter i just made for my 100 gallon stock tank that i usualy have overcrowded with gold fish and the likes as a quarintine.i have been needing a filter for some time but have put it off untill recently.a trip to the dollar store gave me some incentive with a large cheap tuperware. i like the size as to house more media. | i am wanting to just plumb some pvc into a pump that will sit inside the box and draw water through the chosen media types.[img] [/img] i have had good experience using matilla fiber as it doesnt breakdown and holds its structure while traping debree.i also have some on hand. [img] [/img] | |

| inside the tuperware i want to have abag of carbon for when i am not treating and a seperate piece of filter media not only to act as more surface area for bacteria but also to gouse the starter colony when i wash out the main filter pad. [img] [/img] here it is with the pump inside the box alongside some matila. [img] [/img] | |

| i put a mosaic of hole in the lid as well as putting a notch in the lid for the cord to the pump.here you see it has a snug fit. [img] [/img] add the PVC pipe and elbow. [img] [/img] | |

| i am making another one for my turtle tank.this one will have a large area to catch debree and be able to have carbon but this one will also serve as a bit of a platform to put a piece of slate on for them to bask. [img] [/img] first the drill bits and then the holes. [img] [/img] | |

| same principle...pump is external and its intake is inside the filter box with the matila fiber as a pre filter.it is working rather well even without carbon. [img] [/img] you can see just after a few days the debree it has collected. [img] [/img] here i have hidden this unit under a piece of slate...it actualy boosts the rock up as to make the filter even more functional so to speak. [img] [/img] | |
