Pleco Foods

i have beed feeding zuchini and deseeded cucumber for a while as well as romain as pictured here.was wondering if i was missing anything else as far as things on the menu for plecos.i am thinking about trying some other things like corn or apple.i am not sure about the fruits.[img][/img]

yeah, i would think the fructose in the fruit wouldnt be the best thing, fruits leave that sticky residue, but not so with most greenery.

wow, they really do eat it up, lol...

So this time i am throwing in the green beans.they float too so i split it and put it in a veggie clip to sink it and soften it up.i was pretty rough when cleaning it as the outer skin or pod it tough.they went for it pretty quik like though.[img][/img]

I've never seen green beans used before. It looks like they love it though! I may have to try this with mine.

alright so now its the corns turn.raw first.it sure is buoyant so i had to rubberband it to the filter as the veggie clip just floats along.[img][/img]

i think it will get eaten up like the peas, as corn is gonna be sweet in the same way...

so oddly enough the corn wasnt thier favorite food.infact it seemed like they didnt like it much at all.i am thinking it is too tough or something so i am going to blanch it on the next run.special cooking for the plecos.

im not surprised they would like cucumbers.

I always feed mine Swiss Chard. It is a type of large leef spinich and they loved it besides it looks good in your tank until eaten. the leeves are a combination of green,red,and purple. It can be found fresh in most grochery stores.

Try pumpkin, acorn (other squashes as well), mango, star fruit, mulberry leaves, as well as dandelion leaves. Plecos, omniverous and vegtarian species, subsist on the very same foods as dwarf aquarium shrimp. It is unfortunate that even "vegetarian" plecos like bristlenose occasionaly dine of juvy shrimp, otherwise they would make perfect tank companions as many of them prefer quite similar water conditions. well that sucks but is good to know .about the plecos eating little shrimps.i bet its at night when they are active.and thanks for the recomendations.i have several plecos that are always hungery.mango adn swiis chard are on my to get list now.
