| So I went to my brother's house in Portland today and stumbled across a salt water shop three blocks from his house. You all probably know the place out on NE 107th. Anyhow, I was checking out the inverts and saw some fire shrimp. Badass. Maybe they are common in salt water tanks but I've never seen one before. Made me want to start up a small salt water tank. That would be expensive... cost of equipment, rock, inverts, fish, divorce settlement, etc... I think I'll hold off for a while. On to my point, right next to the fire shrimp were some really beautiful nerite snails with blues, greens, and yellows in their shells. They were only $1.50 so I bought a couple to see if I could transition them over to fresh water. I hope it works because they are the most beautiful ones I've seen. It's a bit late now, but does anyone know if all varieties of nerites can survive in fresh water? | |

| They called them "nerites." I asked what variety and they had no idea. They seemed surprised that there were different varieties that could live in fresh water. I got the impression that they are pretty much salt water purists. They did have a pretty good selection of used tanks, filters, etc... Very nice corals & fish. Not a huge selection but everything looked very healthy. The place was called Salt Water Fanta-Seas. http://www.saltwaterfanta-seas.org | |
